Fog

Autumn wears many faces

As the mornings lift

Into fog and mist.

Leaves now shuffle in sound

Dry enough to drop

Below the mothering tree.

Cool breeze will make way

To a warmer day

Reluctant to begin.

Black walnuts fall below

Your feet in surprise

Causing this runner to skip

By so not to fall…

Refreshing

I started out cold

And began to run

Right before the rising sun

As I ran I did not mind

The chill turned into

A refreshing time

Of lights and trees

And autumn sounds

While Golden leaves

Fell on the ground

Chilly Morning

Steam climbs in harmony

With the flicker from the fire

Autumn chill is lingered now

I challenge my will to inspire

A run …

The Captain

Let’s go Captain

Autumn awaits

The golden leaves turn

Halloween abates

A frigid morning

A warm soft fire keeps vigil

To hope in this world.

All Souls

An autumn morning with

crisp awareness of summer past.

Brings to memory how

the saints soon hover and last.

Orange pumpkins lay to rot

Along the porch and drive.

While chapel bells ring

calling ‘All Souls’, who still survive.

Just Before

Tempest ages of tales from lofts

of organs and replicas of saints.

Covered icons to express a time

quiet memories of prayers unsaid.

Whispered among the pews of

the faithful few, wanting …

humanity is deafened to creation.

Signs and wonders are fewer

as ages of hopeful hopeless.

Crossing always into a river of regret

it never matters if we are aware.

It is who we are as oneness,

it is who we are as togetherness

from the beginning, to the recognition

just before, just before the river of regret.

flickering morning fire

quietly throws warmth

across the shadows

no sleep lifts me up

from my warm bed

to sit in the dark

thinking, weighted

yesterdays forge

into serenity

praying in resolution

knowing the day

will be full

Summer’s Ending

summer’s ending
the leaves are drying
the wind is softer,
the heat subsiding
it is as if
they all agree
that summer’s ending
drop down your leaves
moisture is lost
the darkness takes hold
the larger birds balk
the mosquitos are bold
summer’s ending
I feel Autumn say
the days will be shorter
as limbs now sway
to welcome the Fall
stilled by the heat
it won’t be long
it is Autumn’s sweep.

Missing Christmas

Christmas lights flicker

   into colors, green and red.

The silence of the season

hangs in what is not said.

img_9294It is the knowing you are not here

your smile I miss the most,

The quiet way you made it so

   a holiday Christmas toast.

I will miss our first Christmas

   with you not around.

I will miss all the other Christmas’

    in memory do resound.
