A. M.
flickering morning fire
quietly throws warmth
across the shadows
no sleep lifts me up
from my warm bed
to sit in the dark
thinking, weighted
yesterdays forge
into serenity
praying in resolution
knowing the day
will be full

Vintage Silver Christmas Tree
I remember your silver retro tree
sitting on your desk,
the ornaments of blue reflecting
years past of the-other-day.
I smile to remember our verbal
folly of the tacky tree
You would reply, it is the best,
and I would smile, and say ok.
The truth is, it was the best.
Memories of drive-in movies
and sock hops reflected in the light
of the mulit-color turning wheel.
I remember your silver tree,
your jolly laugh of folly and doo-wop.
Jokes of the past being the best of all.
I now remember, smile, and miss you.

RIP Prof. Doo-wop (2012)
Forgotten Poem
I wrote a poem yesterday,
I don’t remember the words
Or what it had to say.
I scribbled it and jotted down
upon old paper
I picked off the ground
Writing quickly so not to forget
It came flowing
The sonnet set.
I found a place
Behind the books
Stuffed it where no others look
Later I promised I would read
The poem of the heart
A now forgotten seed.

In My Garden
There are secrets in my garden
You need but walk a piece
You will stumble on a flower
And a butterfly at ease
Walk but just a couple steps
You almost see them grow
The purple and the yellow
But please walk a little slow
There are secrets in my garden
A prairie dog you might see
A pansy or a daisy
However please be quiet
Not to disturb the frog so lazy
Or the fountains where angels sit
I invite you in my garden
Where joy is laid and kept
Missing Christmas
Christmas lights flicker
into colors, green and red.
The silence of the season
hangs in what is not said.
It is the knowing you are not here
your smile I miss the most,
The quiet way you made it so
a holiday Christmas toast.
I will miss our first Christmas
with you not around.
I will miss all the other Christmas’
in memory do resound.

The Drop
It was just a drop.
“What drop?”
“You know the drop.”
“Tell me, but first tell me why?”
“Why?” “We cried.”
“Because of the drop.”
“What drop!?”
“One who humanity denied.”
“Because, it was a drop.”
“Because of the drop?”
“The brown paper bag.”
“Matched the drop they denied.”
“But, we still cried.”
“We still cry.”
“Each time they deny.”

A Poem
If I wrote among the willows would the earth receive my tears ?
Would the roots gather moisture and return the pain of years ?
If I dry my tears with ashes and wipe my anguish with moss,
would the day seem less melancholy and the passing less a loss ?
Be with me a moment and I will gather in the rain
All the earth of my humanity and the lightening of my pain …
