Sweet Bread and Tea

A tradition of women

who have long since passed.

Has given belonging

to those who are last.

We stand in the clovers,

we pour tea at its best.

As the sweet bread is served

among all the rest.

May the Celtic women

long survive,

into the histories

and the archives.

A Morning

in quiet Dawn

I pass

I remember

And project

I know, we know , we all know

Merry Christmas

Scones

I roll the dough

I roll the dough between my hands

The crumbs drop off into the pan.

I was drawn to a kitchen from long ago

My Scottish Grandma , I remember so.

Hands with a dish towel she rang ,

I remember how often she sang.

Amazing Grace, she chorused the home.

Scottish aired from her among the scones.

The whirl of the smell drifted toward me.

I in my memory can still see .

Always the Rainbow

The grace was shown

Moments from the throne

The universe shares

As all who cares

Bids the tears

Of the many years

Timeless in sorrows

For all our tomorrows …

The Love of an Uncle

The love of an uncle

Just to be there

In the middle

Of confusion he listens

And cares .

We Sparkle

We sparkle , we stand

In the light , in the sand

We are strong against the dark.

We are women making our mark.

We sparkle and we stand .

In the light , in the sand .

Dancing in Grandma’s Kitchen: A Nostalgic Memory

We were young

music was in our feet.

My older sister and I

left with the chores

of the evening after dinner

to clean the kitchen.

We would wash the dishes

and as we did, we danced.

rock and roll

and beach music,

the shag was the rage,

on linoleum floors.

Our grandparent’s home

with white wash cupboards.

a small kitchen table.

A swinging door to the dining room.

A door we kept closed

so we could dance to the radio.

a radio sitting on the yellow table

loud enough to get by …

not loud enough to get caught.

Elvis, Beach Boys and Buddy Holly

transformed into our bandstand

as we found ourselves dancing

in grandma’s kitchen …

I remember the light

In my grandmother’s kitchen

Something you notice,

then later you remember

how refreshing her presence.

Contrast green and soldiers seen

In uniform past.
