Santa Came Early
A voice so loud, I do remember,
Early evening, in late December
“Ho ho ho”, with a thunderous laugh,

Waking from slumber, we in amazement could hear
a noise in the living room, it was certain and clear.
Why was he here and we are not asleep?
Our grandfather yelled, “kids come take a peep.”
“It looks as though Santa has come too soon,
you are awake and giggling in your room.”
We tip toed and peered around the hall to see,
a bearded man, red suit, looking back at me.
“Ho Ho Ho”, he winked and continued to sound.
“You are awake and wide eyed, I have found.”
He had a red suit, and a long white hair,
big black boots, white gloves; he drew near.
We stood there in awe, and not a word said,
he hugged us, “Now get back to your bed.”
We stumbled in step as we scampered away,
giggling we hoped he would be there the next day.
I remember the night; Santa came too soon.
As I closed my eyes, that night in my room.

A Runner’s Lament
I step into the day as I cross over the house,
turn on the coffee pot prepped from the day before.
Feeling the chill, I light the fireplace and pull my robe close.
I linger for a moment, until the coffee is ready.
I see the holiday lights on the neighbor’s lawn,
and the darkness on the houses next to it.
Picking up my cup, I settle into the couch and
into my thoughts from the day before, missing loved ones.
Real Christmas Trees, creakier floors, tinsels that made messes.
the coffee was longer, and we were ok with that.
Holidays are a paradox of time that crescendos.
into glimpse of all the feelings, loved ones, present and past.
I will soon get ready for the day and look to.
a window of time for me to run …

Run Deer Run

Thanksgiving Run and the day is quiet,
I run the hill just in sight.
As I labor against the height
Three young Deer crossed to run, just in sight.
I knew this was a Thanksgiving run,
I have often seen them in early sun.
Hunters were out in their tradition
I had my own Thanksgiving rendition .
As I continued to run the hill,
I see a truck parked on the side still,
I off in distance hear the hunters’ guns,
speckled in a distant field of early sun.
I knew then, what was taking place,
and the reason the deer had a quicker pace.
As I ran on up the hill,
I said a prayer, quiet and still,
“Run, deer, Run.”
I knew then the 3 that crossed,
would live another day, all was not lost.

A Book
What book are you reading right now?
William D Melaney’s , “ Figural Space “. (Semiotics and the Aesthetic Imaginary)
A friend of mine authored this book and I have learned volume’s.
Sense
I run in the morning
It makes sense
As human nature
Fails us, and the universe
Pales from smoke
Water is dried by tears.

Geese Fly
It is cold today and quiet, the sun will rise soon.
The day will begin; without notice of

the freedom we feel, when we watch the geese.
The quietness we will feel, when we stand alone.
The sky is still blue for us, but not for all in the world.

The Dragon

I sat down to my quiet desk,
the end of the day,
I will try to rest.
I look and see there left behind
a golden dragon spread wings
with eyes so kind.
I called my son and said you forgot
your dragon is still here
on my table top.
He quietly paused
with a soft voice replied,
the dragon is there to stay by your side.
Dragons are fun,
but they are brave and strong
he is on your desk where he belongs.

Halloween
Is the night of ghost and goblins?
near as frightful as the days.
coming from the battled streets,
crying from the warrior’s haze.
Crisp the humid fallen golden,
tis moist and wetting dew.
Comes the flowing ghost and goblins.
hallooing from behind the stew.
Yet the truth be more the scarier
dying souls of sand pit graves.
Hence, we need to be more mindful.
battling through mayhem waves.
Yes, this season of the Hallow,
souls and saints remembered here.
While the innocent still living,
live within the streets of fear.
Pray the saints we beckon this,
a night of memory, night of fright.
Soon the only horror faced,
is just the tales of all hallows night.

Find the dragons in this world.
Give them out for all.
Set them next to the children.
To listen as they call.
Lead them from the rubble.
Protect them from the fear.
Of fires and loud noises
As nighttime draws them near
Go gather all the dragons.
Herd them toward the child
Bring them back to safety.
So, we can sit a while.
I will clean the mud from war.
Wash the dry crusted tears.
Read you of the green dragon.
Who promised you no more fears?
